Advent begins this weekend! A time of celebration, waiting, urgency, hope and worship.

I have been asked repeatedly for some resources about celebrating advent with kids. What are some solid ways to explain, celebrate, decorate and keep advent in front of kids so that they get the real meaning? I am going to continue sharing this year about the things we’re doing, but thought I’d start with my go-to places for doing advent with my munchkins.

The people at Godspace have put together a list that is great. Calendars, countdowns, prayers, readings, global awareness, giving back, nativities… all in one place!

I tend to use it as a starting point. For instance, my kids are not yet able to understand most of the advent wreath readings, so I’ve written some basic prayers we say as we light the candles on our wreath. I don’t usually use templates, and we do more baking that we tie to Advent, but surely this resource list will inspire you!

Just 4 Kids Magazine has some “12 days of Advent” prayers and readings that might be age-appropriate for your kids.
