2020 Learning Extension Center

As a Learning Extension Center, Urban Connections will be providing safe space several hours per week for students to access WiFi for schoolwork. Our Learning Center spaces will be set up to adhere to social distancing guidelines, with adult supervision as students work. Beginning September 22, our Learning Extension Center will be open on *Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9am-12pm.

 COVID Protocols
Students, staff, and volunteers will have their temperature taken & recorded, and be asked about symptoms they may be experiencing. Please be mindful of your body before you come. We know that many symptoms on the list can be caused by other illness, allergies, etc, but we ask that for everyone’s safety, if you experience any of these, please stay home. Anyone, student, staff, or volunteer, experiencing any of the following symptoms will not be allowed access to UC until they are symptom free for 48 hours:

    • Body temperature of 100+ degrees within the previous 24 hours.
    • Sore throat or persistent cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
    • Chills
    • Loss of taste or smell
    • Body aches, head ache
    • Runny nose or congestion

Students will have their temperature taken at the door, maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet, and will be required to wear masks at all times in the UC House. Students will be provided with cloth, reusable masks, which they will keep with their supplies, on their assigned shelf. Volunteers & staff will also have temperature taken at the door, and will maintain social distance of at least 6 feet as much as possible. Volunteers/Staff who are helping students will do their best to help from a distance, and may briefly come closer, but should not have contact with the student or the desk. White boards will be provided to assist as needed. Cleaning will take place after each session. 

Students will have assigned seats and a desk or table to work at while they are at UC for learning. 

Hand washing and/or sanitizing will be practiced at UC, when entering, before & after snack times. Daily cleaning & sanitizing of surfaces will be done by UC staff or volunteers at regular intervals and between sessions, with a focus on high touch surfaces such as desks, door knobs, and bathrooms. 

Capacity
Urban Connections will have 10 spots available for students to work on schoolwork. Students will sit at desks, at least 6 feet apart, and students and volunteers must wear masks. You must register to request a spot, and if you miss two sessions, your spot is forfeited to someone on the waitlist. 

Food/Snacks
Students will not be permitted to bring snacks from home, but water/drink bottles with a lid that seals will be allowed at their desk. Students will be offered a snack/drink during their break, provided by staff who wear masks and practice proper hand washing. 

Volunteers will be required to pass a background check and watch an abuse awareness training video.
